Having parties at your home is a really fun and convenient way to spend some time with your friends. However, depending on your idea of a party, it can also create quite a bit of mess. A mess which you will inevitably have to clean.
If you can’t muster the strength or willpower to do it yourself, you can simply hire a maid to do it for you. It’s quick, convenient and you don’t have to do anything. However, if you feel ready to tackle this task by yourself, here’s how to go about it.
Assess the ‘Damage’
Before you can successfully start the whole process, you will need to know what needs to be done. So, when you wake up, go through the rooms which were used for the party (and maybe take a peek at those which weren’t supposed to be used, too). That will give you the idea of what needs to be done.
Once you know how much work is ahead of you, you can start planning and dividing tasks. It is a lot easier if you have help because you will be done much sooner, but even if you are alone, dividing the task into smaller chunks can be a real psychological trick to help you.
Start with the Trash
If the mess is really big, you may feel discouraged and lack the motivation to start. However, if you remove all the trash from the house, chances are that your task will look a lot simpler and more manageable.
If you have a recycling center nearby, you can separate your plastics from glass and other trash, but if you don’t recycle, simply get a really big bag and go right for it. Music helps a lot, so blast your favorite tunes and get to work.
The Dishes Are Next
When you have gotten rid of the trash, the next big thing are the dishes. If you had a dinner party, there’s bound to be a lot of things to clean up. All the plates and the glasses which you probably didn’t do last night are still out there, waiting for you. Not to mention the pans and pots which might still be out there.
If there is some food left over from last night, you have two options – save it for later or throw it away. If it’s been left outside for the night, you may be better off throwing it away, especially if it’s warm.
Doing the dishes is made a lot simpler if you have a dishwasher. All you need to do is soak the dishes a bit and put them in the machine. However, if you don’t be prepared to spend some time scrubbing away. If it’s easier, don’t do all the dishes at once, leave some for later.
Vacuuming and Sweeping
Some of the food which you had at the party must have found its way on the ground. Whether it’s chips and other snacks, or some actual food, you will need to do something about it. If there are any wet stains on the floor, get those first. If you don’t have a stain remover, you can use the good old baking soda and vinegar.
Sweep or vacuum all the rooms where the party took place, not just the parts which look dirty. It may take more time, but at least you will be sure that you have taken care of everything.
Cleaning up after a party is not an easy task and it is going to take the whole day, but it has to be done. If you’re not up to the task, hire professional cleaners, otherwise, roll up your sleeves and get ready.
